The old Mas de Saura estate is situated at an altitude of 350 meters in the municipality of Porrera, halfway between Torroja and Gratallops. Reconstruction work began almost 10 years ago with the recovery of an old Cariñena slope on which 800 vines were planted in the 1940s and abandoned in the late 1970s. On the first patches Black Grenache, and later Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah were planted. Only 8.5 ha of the 20 ha of slate land that make up the estate are cultivated. This area is cultivated as follows:
5 ha of Black Grenache
2 ha of Cabernet Sauvignon
0.5 ha of Syrah
1 ha of Cariñena
The vine begins to bloom in the middle of March and after some rain in spring and a hot and dry summer, the grapes are picked in mid-September. The first grapes picked are the Syrah, then the Cabernet Sauvignon, then the Grenache and finally the Cariñena.
