The coconut palms that line the shores of the Caribbean shaded the playful passage of the passionate half-caste girls on the white sands and still swayed gently in the memory of Guillem Arnal as he reflected on the seafaring years he spent there before, like a belated indiano, he eventually had to return to Catalonia. Perhaps because it was already written in a book as old as the Bible (Genesis, 9:20), where on leaving the Ark Noah "became the first man to plant the vine", Guillem decided to move away from the waves and head inland. Taking with him the classic Dionysian devotion from ancient Mediterranean Tarraco, he planted his vine on the "slate covered hills" llicorella when he sighted the Red tower torre Roja and the calm presence of the Montsant range, in the priory valley of the Siurana river, just as the poet Foix de Sarrià would have liked.
With the help of family members and friends who shared his love of the land, he built the cellar of Torroja del Priorat, where the grapes are taken and where ancestral traditions and modern winemaking techniques are patiently combined to produce the wines we are now pleased to offer you. Cheers!
