Guinda picota muy intenso, casi opaco, menisco vivo. Aroma
de buena intensidad, con fruta negra (ciruelas) muy
madura, casi mermelada, grafito y finas sensaciones
tostadas de la madera (turba). En la boca muestra una
buena estructura, acidez viva pero equilibrada, buena
intensidad de sabores y un final correcto, un punto
alcohólico.

Guinda
picota prácticamente opaco. Aroma de buena intensidad, con
sensaciones de fruta sobremadura (manzana asada), grafito y
especias. En boca es de cuerpo medio, con buena acidez,
fruta suficiente (menos evolucionada que en nariz) y un
final notable, bastante tánico.

I was hoping for a bit more. Lots of
oak and harsh, slightly bitter cherry notes on day 1. This
did improve with a night of air, but there was a shrill
edge to the wine and none of the meaty, chewy minerality I
like in some Priorats. (80 views) |

Que la casas no se empiezan por el tejado lo sabemos hace
tiempo. Que los buenos vinos empiezan en la viña, parece que
lo hayamos descubierto hace dos días. Quizás uno de los
secretos del Priorato (sólo uno de ellos) es el cuidado y el
tamaño de las fincas. El “terruño”, las pequeñas bodegas
familiares (casi microbodegas), y el cuidado en todo el
proceso de la elaboración, desde la viña hasta el
embotellado.
El Mas Saura 2001 aparece con un color rojo picota cubierto
con tonos violáceos, con aromas de frutos rojos, de caramelo
de violeta, muy frutoso, recordando los aromas de la uva
madura. En boca nos da una tanicidad muy madura con
untuosidad y con un final goloso y buena expresividad.
Ideal con una buena comida invernal,
cazuelas, etc. |

I spent a week in Priorat last June,
and I was just reminded that I never posted these notes. I
used my week there visiting new wineries and new
restaurants, and I tried to drink wines that I had not had
before, as there were so many new and interesting ones. If
you were expecting to see notes on L'Ermita, Erasmus,
Mogador, etc., sorry to disappoint you. These are wines
that I bet most of you have never heard of...

2001 Llicorella Vins,
Mas Saura (Torroja) €19.50

Violets and blueberries,
dried riverbed smells, dusty and brambly, hint of burnt
rubber. Nicely balanced, slightly lighter wine. (Relative
to Priorat, of course.) Slight roughness which may
indicate some bottle age is necessary, but has respectable
depth. 90 pts. After two days in the fridge, still fine.
Garnacha, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon. Same comment
regarding importation.</font>
Anyway, sorry for never posting this last Summer when it
was a bit more timely. But thanks to Classic Chris for
inadvertantly reminding me about these notes.
